Taking of supplements within the athletic population of the world is a widely discussed topic with varying opinions and theories being brought forward. There is also a lot of speculation, especially regarding potential health hazards and complications which may arise as a result of using supplements in boosting performance of athletes. However, there are a few supplements on the market, when taken in the right quantities for muscle developments and to repair muscles strained from over use. Supplements also help increase endurance in players.

Types of Supplements

Hormonal supplements are ones to be used with care. Testosterone and growth hormone are the two hormones used in these supplements and when taken with care so as to not aggravate natural levels of concentration within the body, these can help gear you up and increase muscle volume. Testosterone boosters help improve muscle-protein synthesis while growth hormone helps cell regeneration and growth. Use of these will not have many negative effects as these are already produced within the body. Especially for young adults, these may have little to no effect as they are already being produced in large amounts by the body itself.

Whey proteins help remodel and repair muscle tissue. There are three types of whey proteins of which reliable bcaa powder can be used directly after exercise for maximum effect. A protein shake directly after a practice session with a high protein meal following an hour later will help improve endurance and repair muscle damage faster.

Energy supplements obviously help endurance. The simplest being caffeine which opens up your air ways and makes your heart beat faster. However, these should be taken with care as it may cause weight loss and with time, the body becomes immune to it resulting in a higher intake to maintain the same level of energy. This can potentially become a dangerous scenario, therefore it is advised to cycle the use of energy supplements in order to refrain from taking excessive amounts in the long term.

Creatine is a combination of glycine, methionine and arginine; three amino acids which helps produce more ATP or adenine tri-phosphate which is the main source of energy to the body. This helps hydrate muscles and overall endurance which in turn increase strength.

The use of supplements has two sides. When taken in proper quantities it can help improve performance through increased endurance at training sessions, faster muscle recovery, improve hydration and ATP levels which in turn increase energy. However, when taken in excess amounts or when addicted after constant use, can become a potentially lethal factor which could even result in serious health repercussions.
